About Us
Eastwell Local History Group (as it was called then) was formed in September 1996 upon the instigation of local historian David Stanley. The initial aims of the group were to:
-
Research the past history of the village
-
Record memories of village life in the 20th century
-
Collect old photographs and to publish a book of the findings for the Millennium.
The book Aspects of Eastwell was published by the group in 2001, and a second edition with additional content followed in 2011. More Aspects of Eastwell was published by the group in 2024, to record research and activities undertaken by the group in the interim.
In 2015, Eastwell History Group became a registered charity, partly to support the restoration of the ex. Eastwell Iron Ore Company narrow gauge steam locomotive ‘Lord Granby’, and to attract grant funding where possible.
